Nick Wanker's Wanker Records (Germany) released Dee Dee Ramone's Do The
Bikini Dance 12' maxi single on March 18, 2002. Dee Dee passed away few
months later, on June 5, 2002. Dee Dee, Paul Kostabi etc. appreciated
really lot what Nick Wanker did. Cover of Do The Bikini Dance features a
painting created by Dee Dee, his wife Barbara
Zambini and Youth Gone Mad's Paul Kostabi. Line-up:
Dee Dee Ramone (guitar and vocals).
Barbara Zampini (bass and vocals).
Paul Kostabi (drums).
The maxi single contains the songs:
A-side: Do The Bikini Dance
B-side: Twist & Shout.
Do The Bikini Dance is written by Dee Dee Ramone.
Twist & Shout can be found also from album entitled Youth Gone
Mad Featuring Dee Dee Ramone.
Twist & Shout is a 1961 song written by Phil Medley and Bert Berns. It
was originally titled Shake It Up, Baby and recorded by the Top Notes
and then covered by The Isley Brothers. Also the Beatles covered it and
released on their debut album Please Please Me.
Do The Bikini Dance 12' maxi is limited to 1500 copies, I am really
happy to have release with all three color vinyls;
- 100 copies on clear vinyl.
- 400 on orange vinyl.
- 1000 on black vinyl.
There were plans that all copies of this Wanker Records release should
also contain Dee Dee's 24 page long Taking Dope fanzine. But around 100
copies were sold without Taking Dope fanzine. Those copies were sent to
Cargo America and Cargo America gotta be responsible about those copies
missing Taking Dope fanzine.
Anyway Taking Dope fanzine in Do The Bibini Dance release has material
like review of Dee
Dee's shows at The Cat Club in LA, Dee Dee interviewing
himself..., cartoons, photos etc.
