This review is by JC.
I saw the Remains at Continental in NYC. It was great! The band line
up was Dee Dee Ramone on lead guitar & lead vocals, Marky Ramone on drums,
Barbara Zampini (Dee Dee's wife) on bass, and Ben Trokan (from Marky
Ramone
and the Intruders) on guitar.
They played I Don't Wanna Walk Around With You, 53rd & 3rd, Commando,
and
a lot of early Ramones songs. I thought it was really great. They had
in-between Ramones studio speed and Ramones concert speed. Dee Dee sung
well, better than he sings Love Kills on the new Ramones boxed set. Marky
was great on drums. Barbara was really good on bass and the few
songs she sung. Ben Trokan was real good too. Barbara Zampini sung
Sheena Is A Punk Rocker and Babysitter, and that was really good.
They played I'm Zonked, Los Hombres and before playing it Dee Dee said
"This song is from our new album, I guess its a Remains album". Around
that time, I noticed that Joey Ramone was in the crowd. Jayne County came
up on stage to sing I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend, except he/she changed the
words around and sang: "Hey little girl, I wanna be your girlfriend, hey
little boy I wanna be your girlfriend". I thought she sucked. She made a
pretty good album a few years ago, but she just sucked last night. That
was the only song they played that I didn't like, besides a not very good
version of Wart Hog they played earlier.
But for the next song they played, they had a different guest who was
much, much better than Jayne County. His name was.... Joey Ramone! He
came on stage and said "when they asked me to this, how could I refuse?".
He sang 3 songs with them. The first song he sang with them was I Am
Seeing UFOs, and that really good. While Joey was singing with them,
everyone in the club tried to get as close to the stage as possible. It
was really good. Joey sang real good. Then they played Carbona Not Glue,
it sounded a lot like the studio version.
After that the final song was I Wanna Be Sedated. Earlier in the show, Dee
Dee mentioned something about when Joey and Marky got into a fight a few
weeks ago on the Howard Stern show, kind of hard to believe Joey and Marky
would play together, but they did. Anyway, it was a great show!
(Thanks again of this great review JC)
